Become a Surrogate in California. Earn Up to $75,000+.

California is one of the most surrogate-friendly states in the US, with clear legal protections, established courts, and an active community of women who’ve done this before.

That doesn’t mean the decision is simple. Surrogacy is a meaningful commitment, and you deserve honest answers before you take any step.

At Physician’s Surrogacy, you won’t get a sales pitch. You’ll get a board-certified physician-managed team that walks you through requirements, compensation, and what the process actually looks like — from your first question to your last appointment.

Why Become a Surrogate in California?

California surrogates are some of the best-compensated in the country — and the legal framework here actually protects you, not just the intended parents. Pre-birth orders are standard, independent legal counsel is required for your side, and courts here have handled gestational surrogacy cases for decades.

Beyond the legal side, California is where surrogacy as a profession is most understood. Employers recognize it. OBs are familiar with it. Your community has likely seen it before.

And with Physician’s Surrogacy, you’re not doing this with a coordinator who learned surrogacy on the job. You have a board-certified OB/GYN team behind you from application to delivery — and 3 to 6 months after.

Your Questions Fully Answered

The two things every California surrogate wants to know first: what you’ll earn and whether you qualify.

California Surrogacy Compensation

California is a top-tier compensation state. First-time surrogates here earn $68,000 (unemployed) or $75,000+ (employed) — as a flat-rate package agreed upon before you sign anything, held in secure escrow, and paid on a set schedule throughout your journey. No negotiating mid-journey. No surprise deductions.

California Surrogacy Requirements

Our OB/GYN team reviews every application individually. In California, we look for women between 20.5 and 40.5 years old who have had at least one uncomplicated delivery, are raising their own child, and have a BMI under 35. Meeting these basics is a strong start — but our physicians make the final call.

Why Choose Physician's Surrogacy in California

Most surrogates tell us the same thing: they wanted to feel like more than a file number. At Physician’s Surrogacy, your care is managed by actual OB/GYNs.

When you have a question at 2AM, or something feels off at 20 weeks, you have a medical team behind you who understands what you’re going through – medically, emotionally, and everything in between.

Earn Before You're Matched

Complete your psychological and medical screening before matching and earn a $1,250 bonus — plus move to transfer faster once you're paired with intended parents.

Screening That Comes to You

Every appointment happens near your home with no schedule disruptions. Our team coordinates everything locally so surrogacy fits into your life, not the other way around.

Support Doesn't Stop at Delivery

Most agencies step back once the baby arrives. Ours stays with you for 3 to 6 months after with continued coordinator access and post-birth support built into every journey.

FAQS

Can I become a surrogate in California?

Yes — and California is one of the best states to do it in. Pre-birth orders are standard here, meaning your legal rights are established before delivery. Independent legal counsel is required for your side of the contract, not just the intended parents’. And California courts have handled gestational surrogacy cases for decades, so there are no surprises. You’re protected at every step.

Yes. California law specifically addresses gestational carrier agreements. The law requires separate independent attorneys for each side, a fully executed agreement before embryo transfer or injectable medication begins, and allows a parentage action to be filed before birth.

California is a top-tier compensation state. First-time surrogates earn $68,000 if unemployed or $75,000+ if employed — paid as a flat-rate package through secure escrow. Experienced surrogates (second or third journey) can earn $95,000+, as well as additional journey bonuses included in your contract.

Key requirements: age 20.5–40.5, at least one prior uncomplicated delivery, currently raising your own child, BMI under 35 (35–37 reviewed case by case), non-smoker, no disqualifying criminal history, and no active substance use. Our physician team reviews all applications individually.

After you apply, our team reviews your application within a few business days. If you meet initial criteria, a coordinator calls you to walk through the program. From there: medical pre-screening near your home, psychological evaluation, legal contracts, embryo transfer, and pregnancy. Most surrogates are matched within a week of clearing screening.

Most of the journey is handled close to where you live. If you choose our Medically Cleared program, you’ll need to travel to our lab in San Diego for that part of the process. Outside of that, appointments are typically done locally whenever possible, depending on your clinic, match, and program path.

Yes. Compensation does not depend on choosing the Medically Cleared option. If you qualify and match, your compensation package is based on the agreement for your journey.

Yes. In California, gestational surrogacy agreements are typically handled with separate legal counsel for each side, which helps protect everyone involved and keeps the process clear from the start. As a surrogate, the Intended Parent will cover the cost for you.
